What happens when a family leaves the rush of the city behind and spends a day at a farm?

For one of our recent guests, a visit to Vaksana Farms became much more than a simple day trip. It was a day filled with animals, nature, farming, family time, good food and new experiences—and they captured it all in a YouTube video.

From Inspiration to Experience

The visit was especially meaningful for our guest, who shared how Kiruba Shankar, co-founder of Vaksana Farms, had inspired her interest in agriculture through his blogs.

Meeting Kiruba and his mother, Kasthuri Amma, gave the family a chance to see the people and story behind the farm.

What began as a family farm has grown into a place where visitors can experience a slower, more connected way of life.

Meeting Vaksana’s Rescued Animals

One of the biggest highlights of the day was meeting the animals at the farm.

The children came excited to see the horses, but the camels soon became their favourite. They even got to feed them watermelon and learn about their story.

Vaksana Farms is home to several rescued and cared-for animals, making every animal interaction an opportunity to understand kindness, care and responsible living.

For the children, it was a chance to connect with animals beyond what they usually see in books or on screens.

A Farm That Feels Like a Forest

The guest also noticed something special about Vaksana—the greenery.

With trees, open spaces and plenty of shade, the farm offers a refreshing escape from city life. Walking through the farm feels less like visiting a commercial property and more like stepping into a peaceful natural landscape.

It is a place where families can slow down, explore and simply enjoy being outdoors.

Discovering the Farmhouses

The family also explored one of Vaksana’s farmhouses and experienced the blend of nature and modern comfort.

One of the highlights was Luma, Vaksana’s unique farmhouse built around the idea of living with the outdoors. Created using reclaimed old windows, Luma brings natural light, greenery and the surrounding landscape into the living space.

It is a reminder that a comfortable stay does not have to mean disconnecting from nature.

Food, Family and Farm Life

The visit also included a home-cooked lunch, made even more memorable by the warm hospitality at the farm.

For the family, meals were not simply about food. They became another part of experiencing farm life—fresh surroundings, traditional flavours and time spent together around the table.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Children can learn a lot when they are given the opportunity to experience things first-hand.

During their visit, the children interacted with animals, explored the farm, planted saplings and even got a chance to learn how to operate a drone.

It was a day where learning happened naturally—through curiosity, participation and exploration.

Taking a Piece of the Farm Home

Before leaving, the family planted a few saplings and also took plants from the farm as a reminder of their visit.

It was a simple gesture, but one that captured the spirit of the experience: when you spend time in nature, you often leave with more than just photographs.
