Bisi Bele Bath

Ingredients

  • 150 gms Raw rice
  • 100 gms Toor dal
  • 800 ml Water
  • 2 tsp Oil
  • ½ tsp Turmeric
  • 4 tbsps Ghee
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • A pinch Asafoetida (hing)
  • 100 gms Green peas
  • 1 Chopped Carrot
  • 1 Chopped Tomato
  • Lemon size Tamarind soaked for pulp
  • 3 tbsps Bisi Bele Bath powder
  • 15 pieces Cashews

Instructions

Cooking Rice and Dal:

Wash the rice and dal and soak for half an hour.

Add the rice, toor dal, 800 ml water, 1 tsp oil, and a pinch of turmeric in a pressure cooker.
Cook for 3 whistles.

Preparing the Vegetable Mixture:

Heat ghee and oil in a pan.

Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and asafoetida.

Add green peas, carrots, and tomato.

Cook for 3 minutes, then add salt to taste.

Pour in 300 ml water and cook for another 8 to 10 minutes.

Before starting with the main recipe, it is important to prepare tamarind pulp, a crucial ingredient for Bisi Bele Bath.

Adding Tamarind and Masala:

Add tamarind pulp to the vegetable mixture and cook for 2 more minutes.

Add the prepared Bisi Bele Bath powder (3 tbsp) and 150 ml hot water. Let it boil.

Mixing:

Combine the vegetable mixture with the cooked rice and dal in the cooker.

Final Cooking:

Mix everything well and check for salt.

Cook on a slow flame for another 5 minutes.

Add the roasted cashews to the Bisi Bele Bath in the cooker.

After completing these steps, your Bisi Bele Bath is ready to be served.
