Paruppu Kuzhambu (Lentil Curry)

Ingredients

For the Dal

  • 150 grams Yellow moong dal, roasted
  • 2 Onions, finely chopped
  • 2 Tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 4 Green chillies
  • 6 Garlic cloves
  • A pinch of turmeric

For the Spice Mix:

  • 2 tbsps Coriander seeds
  • 2-3 Dry red chillies

For the Tempering:

  • 6- 8 Curry leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Jeera (cumin seeds)
  • 20 Small onions, peeled and cut

Garnishing:

  • Coriander leaves

Instructions

Pressure cook the yellow moong dal, onion, tomatoes, green chillies, and garlic cloves for 4 whistles.
In the meantime, dry roast the coriander seeds and red chillies, and then grind them into a fine powder to create your spice mix.
Add oil and heat it up in a kadai (or wok). Add the jeera and curry leaves for tempering.
Add the small onions to the kadai and sauté until golden brown.
Add the prepared spice mix to the kadai and sauté for a few more minutes until fragrant.
Now add the boiled dal mixture to the kadai and mix well. Adjust the salt according to your taste.
Let it boil and then simmer for a few minutes until all the flavours are well combined.
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
